Blog: What Are King Charles III’s Favourite Cars?

This Saturday 6th May 2023, His Majesty King Charles III will ascend to the British throne. Just like the late HM Queen Elizabeth II, our new King is a fan of his cars. On the eve of The Coronation, we take a look at his favourites.

King Charles II reportedly enjoys his Aston Martins, a smart choice if you ask us. He is often spotted driving an Aston Martin DB6 Volante.

The then Prince Charles was gifted a classic blue 1970 Aston Martin DB6 for his 21st birthday more than 50 years ago.

What Cars Does King Charles III Own?

Unsurprisingly, King Charles III has an impressive garage of cars. These include a range of British automotive classics, alongside some newer fully electric alternatives:

  • Rolls Royce Phantom VI
  • Jaguar I-Pace
  • Bentley State Limousine
  • Audi A6 Allroad
  • Aston Martin Virage Volante
  • Audi A8
  • Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante
  • Audi E-Tron
  • Tesla Model S

The King’s Tesla Model S was recently put on the market, with just 7,000 miles on the clock for £82,500. It had no special premium added for its Royal pedigree. It is believed the fully electric car was loaned by Tesla to Charles’ household to try out an environmentally friendly form of transport, in addition to his fully electric Jaguar I-Pace.

Does King Charles III’s Aston Martin really run on wine and cheese?

Perhaps King Charles III’s most unusual car, his 1970 Aston Martin DB6, was gifted to him for his 21st birthday, over 50 years ago.

The King still uses this car today – and unlike most cars on the road, his beloved Aston Martin DB6 Volante does not run on regular unleaded, but instead on bioethanol produced from supply waste. King Charles III has confirmed that it does indeed run on wine and cheese.

He told the BBC: “My old Aston Martin, which I’ve had for 51 years, runs on – can you believe this – surplus English white wine, and whey from the cheese.”

The type of biofuel he refers to is called E85. It’s composed of 85% bioethanol, which is a renewable energy source made by fermenting the sugar and starch components of plant by-products, and 15% unleaded petrol.

We don’t do cars that run on wine and cheese, but we do offer some of the Best Electric Car Lease Deals on the market if you’re looking for an alternative fuel source for your next vehicle.

Long live His Majesty the King!
